Verstappen Extends Red Bull Contract Until 2030

Max Verstappen, the four-time world champion, has signed a new contract with Red Bull, committing him to the team until the end of 2030. This extension aims to conclude speculation regarding the Dutch driver’s future, as he had been previously linked with potential moves to other teams.

Verstappen’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of 2028. However, his contract included clauses that would have allowed him to depart at the conclusion of the current Formula 1 season. The announcement of his extended commitment comes in the lead-up to Verstappen’s home race in the Netherlands.

Commitment to Red Bull

Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, stating, “I am really pleased with the contract extension. We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again.” He added that the team feels like a second family to him, and he feels very much at home.

Since joining the Milton Keynes-based team in 2016, Verstappen has achieved 71 victories and secured four Drivers’ Championships. His most recent championship triumph occurred in 2024. He was promoted to the senior team in 2016.

Team Principal Laurent Mekies, who assumed his role in July 2025, highlighted the significance of Verstappen’s decision. Mekies stated that retaining Verstappen is “fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as F1 and motorsport as a whole.” He further noted that few partnerships in sport achieve what Verstappen and the team have, praising the driver’s uncompromising competitiveness and relentless determination.

Verstappen also acknowledged Mekies’ leadership, remarking, “Getting to work with Laurent now for over a year has also been great, I see a clear vision he has for the team.” He looks forward to fighting for more victories and championships as they continue to shape the team’s future.

Challenges and Future Ambitions

Red Bull has faced a challenging start under the new regulations for cars and engines introduced this season. Verstappen’s top results this season include two second-place finishes in the Austrian and Hungarian Grands Prix. Last season, he came within two points of winning the world title against McLaren’s Lando Norris, following a significant comeback in the latter half of the season.

Despite the team’s recent performance, Verstappen’s decision to remain with Red Bull demonstrates his confidence in the team’s vision and people. The team described their relationship with Verstappen as “one of the most successful and defining partnerships in F1 history,” viewing the new deal as “a powerful statement of mutual trust and ambition – and a shared decision to shape the future together.”

Mekies emphasized that the team is not yet finished, stating, “There are more races to win, more milestones to achieve and more history to write.” He added that their ambition remains unchanged, united by one direction, one vision, and one team.

Verstappen’s commitment is seen as crucial during a period of evolution for Oracle Red Bull Racing, particularly with Red Bull Ford Powertrains completing its first season as an F1 power unit manufacturer. This commitment helps establish the foundations for the team’s next era.

The announcement of the contract extension was made during the final Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
